Reality Capture of a Wood Carving

Late last year I went on a family hike at the local Starved Rock State Park. While walking around, I discovered this interesting wood carving of differentWood carving animals. I realized that this would make a
good subject for a ReCap project.

So to start with, I walked around the object, taking pictures from different angles, 55 in total. I then uploaded them to ReCap360 where the Autodesk servers processed them into a fully-textured 3D mesh. I then downloaded the model as an OBJ, imported it into Blender, and reduced the mesh density with the Decimate modifier. I also baked normal maps and added them to the object’s materials. The only thing left to do was upload the .blend file and textures to Sketchfab.
